I decided to conduct a little experiment and compare popular travel sites prices.

In my little case study I searched for the trip that includes the following:

2 adult travelers

Round trip flight from IAD( Washington DC) to HNL ( Honolulu)

7 nights accommodation in Waikiki ( White Sands Hotel, Waikiki Sand Villa for Orbitz search, and Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki for Priceline)

1 economy car

The traveling dates are October 8th 2011 to October 15th 2011 .

So what is the cost of 7  nights vacations in Honolulu, Hawaii, including flight from IAD and car rental and if it is worth to check several websites to get a better deal.

The searches were conducted at the same sitting on Sunday, September 4th around 5pm EST.

Findings:

  1. It is definitely worth it to do the price comparison of the travel sites.

  2. It can be costly to have the habit of checking only one or two websites when booking your vacations.

  3. The difference between the highest price for the same or almost the same itinerary and the lowest one can be substantial.

In my scenario it was more than $600 difference.

4. The cheapest package price in this case was from Expedia.com, but it doesn’t mean that if you change the length, airport or dates the results will be the same.

I will conduct the same search later to see how the package prices will change and if any last minute deals discounts will be available to get this cheap Hawaii vacation package for an even lower price!

Can you suggest any other travel booking site to add to this comparison? With which site do you have better luck getting the cheapest vacation package?
